Kathy Selker


Kathy took an interesting path to a career in agency leadership. She studied economics as an undergrad at the University of Cincinnati, and that social sciences background trained her to look for the motivators that lead people to make the choices they make. She earned her MBA at what is now UC’s Lindner College of Business, a discipline that prepared her to apply consumer behavior principles in the context of business objectives. After a career that included stops at Accenture, Macy’s and Coca-Cola, she joined Northlich in 2000 as chief financial officer, later serving as COO. As president and CEO since 2007, she helps brands and companies understand both the contribution and the cost of their marketing efforts so they can deliver real value to their shareholders and stakeholders.

Kathy’s unique blend of skills as a business owner, corporate executive and parent have helped her transform Northlich into a strong strategic marketing firm. She finds inspiration in interacting with others as they learn and develop, and she loves the way advertising challenges us to constantly stretch and evolve our thinking. She writes about industry trends, tactics and strategies at AimForThe80.com, a blog focused on helping marketers communicate with women about complex services such as healthcare and financial services. Many of her posts have been picked up by third-party publishers, such as Forbes, The American Marketing Association and MediaPost.

Kathy believes a vibrant, professional arts community enhances the community overall. She is an emeritus trustee and past chair of the board of the Cincinnati Ballet Company, a current member of the Cincinnati Opera, the YWCA and Urban League boards, and former board chair of the Central Region of the American Association of Advertising Agencies. She is an executive member of both the Women’s Foodservice Forum and the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, a member of the Business Advisory Council at UC’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business, and a founding member of the Agenda 360 Consumer Brand Hub.

Kathy loves the outdoors and does her best thinking while walking outside. She loves the Cincinnati neighborhoods of Mt. Adams and OTR for their vibrancy and transformation. Kathy’s proudest achievements are her three bright and caring sons, whom she aspires to someday take on a trip to Australia and New Zealand.

Kathy’s recent speaking engagements include a presentation at WE Speak, which provides a forum for distinguished women leaders to share personal experiences, advice and lessons learned with other leading businesswomen. She has presented to the Lindner College of Business and Ursuline Academy about the power of branding, and led a breakout session at the 2015 WFF Annual Leadership Conference on the topic of leadership and the path to the C-suite. She also recently hosted and led four roundtable discussions on brand positioning for healthcare professionals at the Cincinnati chapter of Ohio HBA and led a roundtable discussion at the SHSMD Connection Annual Conference.
